The publication consists of three parts: Part I introduces the concept of inclusive business, the benefits and challenges to doing business with people in poverty; part II describes how to develop an inclusive business model from design to implementation and growth; and part III highlights promising sectors and countries. The Emergia Institute has published a German primer on inclusive business titled Entwicklungsgeschäfte - Geschäfte machen gegen Armut (pdf, 92 pages) with the aim of offering a comprehensive, practical and engaging entry point for all companies, entrepreneurs and development experts who want to learn more about how to fight poverty through business.
20 case studies illustrate each chapter in part I and II. Cases include well-known examples from the literature as well as lesser known cases based on Emergia’s own research, including the SAFO initiative (Strategic Alliance for the Fortification of Oil and Other Staple Foods), a public-private partnership between BASF and the GTZ aimed at providing low-income population groups in currently six selected emerging and developing countries at low cost with staple foods fortified with vitamin A (Bolivia, Brazil, Tanzania, Indonesia, Cambodia and Uzbekistan).
